IN LIKE FLYNN
A
film about the life of Sean Flynn, the photographer
son of the late film idol ERROLL FLYNN, is
being developed and will go into production early
next year in Thailand and Cambodia.
It
is being produced by SAM WATERSTON who will
also star as Flynn, a combat photographer during the
Vietnam war who disappeared one day after setting
off for the front line on a motorcycle and was never
seen again.
BILLY
CRYSTAL,
fresh
from his success as host of the Oscars show, is now
concentrating on directing his first film, a baseball
story called 61. He was originally only going to produce
but as the script developed he decided he wanted to
direct the very personal story which he co...wrote
about his friendship with the late baseball star MICKEY
MANTLE. He is currently looking for a baseball-playing
actor to star as Mantle.
A
script for a film based on the lives of JOHN LENNON
and YOKO ONO is currently being read by Ono,
who has been offered a producer's role on the project
by Columbia Pictures. Ono's spokesman Elliot Mintz
says she will spend the weekend reading it.
"There's
no film without her approval and if and when she does
approve it, all things are possible,'' said Mintz.
The film will delve deeply into John and Yoko's relationship
and their tumultuous times in the spotlight, but does
not deal with John's life as a Beatle, according to
sources who have read it.
SIGOURNEY
WEAVER
and
JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT have been spending much
of their spare time together to prepare for their
roles as mother and daughter confidence tricksters
in Breakers. "The chemistry between them is vitally
important,'' says writer...director David Mirkin,
who begins filming next month. He describes Breakers
as "a subversive, dark comedy'' about two women
who seduce men to obtain their money. "The mother
teaches the daughter how to do this and they're very,
very clever about it,'' he says.
CHRIS
COLUMBUS's
successful
track record with family films helped him beat out
ALAN PARKER and TERRY GILLIAM for the
job of directing the first Harry Potter film. Some
of the world's top directors had been vying for the
job ever since STEVEN SPIELBERG turned the
project down after toying with it for months.
Sources
at Warner Bros studio say that although Columbus's
most recent film, Bicentennial Man, was a flop despite
its star ROBIN WILLIAMS, hits like Home Alone,
Mrs Doubtfire and Stepmom persuaded executives that
Columbus was the man to bring Harry Potter to the
screen.
After
an absence of 15 years, Oscar-winner GEENA DAVIS
is returning to television as the star of a new comedy
series, Lost and Found. She will play a single New
York party planner who falls for a suburban widower
with two children and is forced to change her lifestyle.
Davis's last stint on television was in 1985 when
she starred as a lawyer in the short-lived comedy
series Sara.
