JFK Jr.'s Apartment goes to Actor...

He may not have been born in Ireland but JFK junior was one of the most famous ex-pats in the world just like his father and the rest of the Kennedy clan who originally hail from Co Waterford.

Reports are in today that the New York loft apartment once owned by the late John F. Kennedy Jr. may soon be occupied by indie actor-director Edward Burns.

The 32-year-old Burns has negotiated a deal to buy the penthouse in New York's Tribeca neighborhood for less than the reported $2.5 million minimum asking price, both the New York Daily News and the New York Post reported.

Before the sale can be finalised, Burns must be approved by the property's co-op board. Kennedy bought the 2,400-square-foot loft for $700,000 in 1994. Since his death in July, it has been on the market via sealed bids by Sotheby's International Realty, according to the Associated Press. A spokeswoman for Sotheby's refused to comment, and Burns' publicist, Mara Buxbaum, also issued a "no comment" on the Saving Private Ryan actor's behalf.

The Post's Neal Travis reports that before bidding on the penthouse, Burns showed interest in the Hudson Street apartment where John lived for two years while attending NYU Law School. Travis' sources now say that Swingers director Dough Liman is buying that apartment, a place that's been described as a "bachelor pad."
