EXCLUSIVE
MCD
to take Paddy's Day on world tour...
Dennis
Desmond, owner of MCD Ireland's biggest concert promoter
has given exclusive details of his biggest venture
yet to ShowbizIreland.com. Dennis, who already
runs nearly every single concert in the land as well
as owning venues such as the Gaiety and the Olympia
theatres now wants to own St Paddy's Day as well as
launch Ireland's very own version of the Oscars, which
will be broadcast around the world on March 16 next.
Going
into partnership with the New York based promoter
Dave Clarke, The American Ireland Fund and the Irish
production company Dreamchaser, Dennis is now set
to launch his own version of our national holiday,
with the St Paddy's Jam as a festival of its own on
St Patrick's Day around the world to celebrate Irish
theatre, music, film, art and comedy.
Next
March, the St Paddy's Day Jam will be launched in
Dublin, New York and London, with music and arts festivals
in each country in every Irish venue and bar.
According
to Dennis and his business partner Dave Clarke, "We
had a St Paddy's Jam in 250 New York bars this year
and next year we are going to take it around the world
with an honours ceremony on March 16. There is already
the Oscars, the Brits, the Grammys... the Irish awards
would be the Jamee's? We will be honouring people
who have made a hugh contribution to Ireland. Next
year's nominees will fall under three categories.
Under music, The Chieftains will be honoured and will
play in New York. Actor Paul Newman is being looked
at for the arts honour for his charity work in Barrettstown,
while the Justice award goes to the family of the
late President John F Kennedy, whose sister Jean Kennedy
Smith will accept the award and has asked for the
prize to be donated to the Kennedy Wexford Fund".
One
only wonders what's on the cards for next week with
Dennis. Maybe a buy-out of Christmas?
