Hurt Plays About with the Environment...

Legendary actor John Hurt is soon to be out of work - or so he would have us believe!

The actor is soon off to South Carolina and then perhaps London, touring with his current play, About Plays, which is showing in the Gate at the moment.

After that he is unsure as to what he will be doing. Speaking exclusively to ShowBizIreland.com he said: "In terms of film, I don't know. There's a lot of stuff around, but a lot of it's not green lit yet. So it's difficult to say what I'm going to be doing".

With regard to working on a film in Ireland, he was equally unsure: "I hope. I don't know. I'd love to work on a film in Ireland".

Hurt was in Temple Bar, Dublin yesterday to launch the annual Environmental Convergence Festival 2002. Bringing together artists and activists in a diverse range of exciting events that aim to define a healthier, just and ecologically sustainable culture.

Explaining why he got involved in the event, he told us: "Because I'm all over the place in a sense, I'm not involved in any kind of organisational way. But I lend whatever can be useful to as much as is possible".

Commenting on his current role and career, he says: "It's quite a tricky little play. It's not a play that you can just toss off. You do have to concentrate hard. But, you know, that's my game. Hard luck. As my mother would say 'it's what you've always wanted to do'".
