Sophie
Murders the Dublin Dancefloor...
Stylish
songstress Sophie Ellis-Bextor kicked off her
first tour in Dublin on Monday night and ShowBizIreland.com
was there.
Playing
to a capacity crowd at the Olympia, the 23
year-old performed well-known hits, such as Murder
on the Dancefloor, and her new single, Get
Over You.
ShowBizIreland.com
caught up with Sophie to congratulate her on the huge
success she has had as a solo artist.
"I've
never really been sure about how appealing I am as
an individual. I'm not someone that's kind of very
good at being very smiley and doing the dancing thing,
so I'm not very sure at how far it's going to take
me. I think there's always going to be a little section
of people it works for - but the other bit I don't
know", she modestly professed.
Sophie
started her career with indie band theaudience,
she first came to chart prominence with Italian DJ
Spiller when she provided the vocals for the
dance anthem of 2000, Groove Jet.
Since
then her brand of electro-pop, via the album Read
My Lips, has made a huge splash.
Despite
her glamorous appearance, Sophie Ellis - Bextor does
not buy into the celebrity lifestyle, choosing to
travel with her band on her tour bus instead of flying
first class.
"I'm
really not someone that's particularly interested
in fame itself. You get older and you're just not
that fussed. And now I kind of shy away from a lot
of it. I don't really go to any sort of parties and
film premieres", she told us.
So what's next for her? "I've got two new singles
coming out in June. Hopefully a bigger UK tour in
the autumn".
We look forward to it!
