Star
Wars star Sir Alec Guinness was a real Guinness...
Star
Wars hero Obe Wan Kenobi (aka the late
actor Alec Guinness) was a real Guinness
of the Irish Beer giants of the same name. Reports
in an Irish tabloid claim that Sir Alec was the illegitimate
son of one of the real Guinness family. The actor
who died recently was a cousin of the family according
to Patrick Guinness, the Irish heir to the
brewing giants.
Speaking
to Irish papers Patrick said, "Nobody made a great
deal about it. But, it was generally accepted in a
matter of fact way among the family."
Mr
Guinness went on the say that is was widely believed
in the family that Alec was the illegitimate son of
Walter Guinness, who went on to become Lord
Moyne. Walter Guinness is believed to have fathered
another child out of wedlock along with his two other
children from his wife.
His
daughter Grainne, now Lady Normandy,
is still alive and living in Yorkshire and could have
been Alec's cousin. Lord Moyne her great grandfather
was known for having affairs and is believed to have
had an affair with Alec's mother Agnes Cuffe.
As a teenager the actor was casually told by his mother
that his real name was Guinness.
The
Oscar winner who died two weeks ago aged 86
made a reported 200 million from Star Wars but in
the end was embarrassed over his role in the hit movie.
Alec
wrote in later life that his real father was a member
of the Geddes banking family but this was later
denied by members of that family.
Patrick
Guinness told the paper that the similarity could
be seen between photo's of Sir Alec and Lord Moyne.
The
truth may now never be known?
