Townsend's cult movie with Aaliyah...

The Howth born actor Stuart Townsend may now be the star of a cult movie, Queen of the Damned, due to the sad death of his co-star Aaliyah last weekend.

Stuart's co-star singer/actress 22 year old Aaliyah Houghton died in a tragic plane crash returning from an exotic video shoot. The movie in which they both starred, Queen of the Damned, had been held back to 2002 for a release and was even rumored to go straight to video up until now.

Because Aaliyah passed well before her time movie buffs are saying the film may now gather a massive cult following because of all the hype and media attention.

Just like James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Brandon Lee and many more, who like Aaliyah died at such a young age, the movies they left behind have gathered cult following.

Aaliyah was due to have a role in the Matrix Reloaded plus she had already starred in Romeo must Die.

Townsend was back home in Ireland over the weekend to see U2 in Slane with his current girlfriend Charlize Theron. Townsend was recently cut from the cast of The Lord of the Rings as the director felt he looked too young to fill the shoes of the character he was due to play.
