A
Woody Good Show...
The Hollywood actor who made Ireland his retreat,
Woody Harrelson, has put his recent troubles
behind him and made his triumphant debut on the West
End stage.
He received a standing ovation for his performance
in On An Average Day opposite fellow US star
Kyle MacLachlan on Wednesday night.
For most of last year the actor travelled around Ireland
visiting music festivals before arriving in Dublin
to party with Bono's best friend Guggi,
the artist.
Harrelson,
now 41, last made headlines in June when he spent
the night in a police cell after going "berserk"
in the back of a London cab.
But
he put all that behind him to take the stage at the
Comedy Theatre in central London.
Hugh Grant was among the celebrities in the
audience, accompanied by long-time friend Rose
Uniacke.
In
On An Average Day Harrelson and MacLachlan play estranged
brothers. MacLachlan's character returns home after
15 years to find his troubled younger brother has
retreated into a bizarre private world.
Harrelson's character finds himself in trouble with
the authorities after an altercation with a motorist
who has offered him a lift.
In a case of art imitating life, Harrelson was the
subject of a Scotland Yard investigation two months
ago and also got into a fight one night in U2's
favourite nightclub Renards in Dublin.
Thankfully for him the police were not called.
