Harris
receives another Life Award...
The Irish-born actor Richard Harris, whose
films include the Oscar nominated hit Gladiator
and A Man Called Horse, received his a lifetime
achievement award last night his second in less than
a fortnight. He was given the award by Empire magazine
for a lifetime in the film industry. This however
is nothing new for the actor who was given a massive
lifetime party last year in Dublin Castle on his 70th
birthday and who only last week received the same
accolade from the London Film Critics' Circle.
Other
winners last night included the English actor Vinnie
Jones who starred as hard man Bullet Tooth
Tony in the smash movie Snatch. He picked
up an acting award for his performance in the box
office hit. The footballer-turned actor was named
Best British Actor in the Empire Awards
2001 which were held in central London. The 36-year-old
former Wimbledon player made his acting debut in Guy
Ritchie's first feature film Lock, Stock and
Two Smoking Barrels and has since appeared in
the action packed car thriller Gone In Sixty Seconds.
But
last night he was recognised for his hard hitting
performance in Snatch. And doing the double for Snatch
at tonight's awards, Mr Madonna Guy Ritchie
was named Best British Director.
The
other British movie which featured highly was the
touching drama Billy Elliot, which was named
Best British Film, with Julie Walters
getting the Best British Actress gong and 14-year-old
Jamie Bell getting an award for the Best
Debut.
The
Roman epic, Gladiator, was named Best Film and its
star Russell Crowe the Best Actor.
The
Empire 2001 Awards will be screened on Channel
4 on February 25.
