EXCLUSIVE
ShowBiz
Ireland on da BBC!!
ShowBizIreland.com
has joined forces with BBC Northern Ireland for
a brand new 6 part series for Straight Forward
Productions called Fish out of Water.
On
Wednesday March 6th at 10.30pm on BBC you can see
what happens when ShowBizIreland.com's Editor
Jason O'Callaghan is taken out of ShowBiz filled
Dublin and asked to swap with Niall Crozier
from the Portadown Times.
Along
the way friends, work colleagues, and family members
offer intriguing insights into the personalities and
drive of the two protagonists.
Speaking
about the show Jane Kelly, the show's Producer
/ Director said "This is a sparky programme with wit
and wickedness. I had such fun with this programme.
Both Niall and Jason just didn't hold back and though
they each really enjoyed the people they met, they
would not swap jobs for any money and they let us
know it".
She continued "Filming people at work and hopefully
capturing something natural about it can be tricky
enough, throwing people into someone else's job and
expecting them to act naturally is even more difficult.
What we did was to go a few steps further again. Our
participants not only had to swap jobs, but also city,
society and environment, and, in the full glare of
the camera. I was delighted that everyone who took
part did so with a real sense of curiosity, to stand
in someone else's shoes and get a feel for their work,
their life, their society. It's been a very unique
and hopefully, lasting experience for them and for
us."
"The series looks gorgeous, rich colours and
beautifully composed scenes - it's not so much a docu-soap
as a docu-movie. We've covered a very wide range of
jobs and people in a relatively short run of programmes
from estate agency to teaching and from journalism
to vets. There's a lot of humour in the programmes,
each of the people who took part could quite easily
have a series of their own, their opinions and response
to the job in hand are unusually honest and candid.
And of course the contributions of their family, friends
and work colleagues along the way really let you get
in under the skin of the people taking part"
During the6 shows the producers took 12 unsuspecting
individuals and swaped their jobs and lives for a
week. The twist was that one person came from the
North of Ireland and the other from the South.
The
series covers a huge range of jobs and lives from
estate agents to journalists, vets to chefs and teachers
to hotel managers. All of life, North and South is
here!
Each week, two people leave their jobs and travel
North and South to a new job, new society. We follow
as they find their feet, make new friends, discover
common ground or confirm their own prejudices.
The first show is broadcast on Wednesday February
27th at 10.30pm on BBC Northern Ireland. Following
two Goliath's of the Estate Agency business, North
and South swap jobs in this unique and humorous programme
when they go back to the floor to value and sell houses
miles away from their home ground.
