Doherty Does His Mammy Proud...
Doey-eyed Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty spent an eventful Friday night in Dublin last weekend. Before his car-crash toe-curling interview with Pat 'the plank' Kenny on The Late Late Show, Pete gave a insightful talk at Trinity College's Philosophical Society and received an Honorary Patronage medal, making his dear old Mum proud of her son. Bless...

With all the big and bold tabloid headlines that surround musician Pete Doherty's infamous heroin drug addiction, there are probably very few times over the past few years that he has made his poor mother proud. We're glad to say all that changed last Friday night...

Being from Irish lineage, Doherty was beaming as he arrived at RTE Studios brandishing the Trinity College medal he now shares with luminaries such as Al Pacino, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, Helen Mirren, and John McCain. But sweet Pete wasn't basking in his own glory, the pride written across his face was for a more maternal reason.

For the talented singer had just received a text message from his mother in the UK telling her troubled son how proud she was of him for being honoured by the prestigious Irish College. Doherty seemed chuffed-to-bits as he told our snappers his good news - he just kept on rereading his Mum's message as he entered the TV studio for his imminent interview...

Sadly, that was the end of Pete's smiles for the night as his formal chat with an under-prepared Pat Kenny was a cringe worthy affair, bordering on vomit inducing folks... Mr. Kenny's stiff collar style didn't contrast at all well with Doherty's wide-eyed innocent vagabond vibe. To say it was unpleasant would be an understatement.

It seemed like The Late Late host took one look at scruffy Doherty with his ashen skin, greasy hair, and dirty fingernails and immediately equated him with his tabloid junkie persona. Kenny went straight into scripted question after scripted question regarding the singer's drug addiction and much publicised relationship with Kate Moss, failing to ask him a single thing about his music, art or poetry...

But all credit must go to Doherty, he didn't take too much of his paint-by-numbers interviewer's underestimation of his deep intelligence. He hit back by asking Kenny his own interview shattering question: "I bet you don't even know the name of any of my songs, do you?" To which a rather confused looking Pat was forced to respond with: "No, I don't."

Pete Doherty |
It was an excruciatingly hard interview to watch folks; we felt Pete Doherty ultimately came out the winner by leaving his oral sparring partner lost for words and squirming in his seat. If it wasn't for his reliance on the ever-present teleprompter we're sure Mr. Kenny would have ran for the hills as his wooden demeanor fell apart. The interview ended with the Babyshambles singer strumming out 'The Last of the English Roses' - we're sure his unwelcoming Irish host will at least remember the name of THAT song. Ahem.
