Oliver
Reed to win Oscar tribute?...
The
late Irish based actor Oliver Reed may now
be due a posthumous Oscar for his role in the
Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator. The actor
may now be up for the role of Best Supporting actor
in the film in which he died during it's filming in
May 1999 aged 61.
According to reports in the Irish press the actor's
late wife Josephine Reed, who still lives in
the couple's mansion near Cork in Ireland, said it
would be a great tribute to him. "It would be a wonderful
tribute to him if he were to receive one. He loved
the role as the slave master in the film. He was such
a rogue and this role was typically him. It would
be really great if he was honoured in this way," she
said.
Reed
made over 80 films and never won an Oscar but this
would not be a sympathy award it would be for his
work as a fine actor said one Hollywood insider. "His
role as Proximo reminded us all that first
and foremost Ollie was a very fine actor. It's just
a shame that his finest hour should have such tragic
circumstances."
