Blanchett to play Veronica Guerin...

Australian actress Cate Blanchett is to play award-winning Irish journalist Veronica Guerin, who was slain in 1996 by drug dealers she had written about. The Australian actress was chosen by director Joel Schumacher and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for the title role in Chasing the Dragon: The Veronica Guerin Story.

Schumacher and Bruckheimer hey will shoot the film in Dublin later this year. Schumacher recently finished shooting Phone Booth with Irish actor Colin Farrell.

An earlier film version of Guerin's story starred Joan Allen in the title role.
