Oasis
in the running for Slane 2002?
Word
leaked out in Ireland yesterday that Oasis
may play this year's Slane gig even though
Madonna and the Rolling Stones are in the running.
The
material girl has never played Ireland and is hotly
tipped to take over the country's biggest concert
which hosts an audience of 80,000.
But
Ronnie Wood from the Stones has said he would
love to bring the band here for an outdoor show.
Slane
2001 was the first ever year that it was played twice
due to demand for U2 tickets who go the go-ahead
after Government intervention.
August
24th will be the date of the show which was applied
for by MCD the concert
promoters. They applied ahead of the end of this year's
deadline for the date which is a requirement by the
council.
Last
year's concert also brought in a new licensing law
which allowed the second concert and the system also
provides the promoters to make a financial contribution
towards the cost of the show.
The
owner of Slane Lord Henry Mountcharles confirmed
that date which is a bank holiday in the UK but said
there is no way there will be a second concert this
year.
