Blanchett's Guerin Role near...

Lord of the Rings star Cate Blanchett is due to arrive in Ireland over the next two weeks to start work on her new movie Chasing the Dragon.

The film is based on the life of the Irish reporter Veronica Guerin, who was murdered in cold blood in 1996 by Dublin criminals, will be produced by one of Hollywood's biggest filmmakers Jerry Bruckheimer and Joel Schumacher will direct it.

Blanchett, who has recently stared in Lord of the Rings as the elf Queen Galadriel, will be staying in a rented penthouse on Colimore road in Dalkey, near the home of the film maker Neil Jordan and U2 stars Bono and The Edge.

Speaking recently about the film Bruckheimer said, "I've been trying to get this made for quite some time now. Veronica's story is a fascinating one and I just hope we can do her justice. Veronica made a difference. Everyone can identify with that. The ambiguities in her character make her all the more appealing."

He continued, "Why would a woman who has a husband and a young son and who gets shot, still keep going. What drives her? We've been in touch with Veronica's brother. We want to get it right."
