Gay
Byrne to host the Millonaire show in Ireland...
Riverdance
producers John McColgan and Moya Doherty
have secured a 7 million pounds sponsorship deal from
Irish telecommunications giant Eircom. The
deal is to sponsor the Irish version of the world's
favourite TV show "Who Want's to Be a Millionaire"
for the next two years. The couple who own Riverdance
and Tyrone Productions will broadcast the show
from October 17 as a double episode. The host of the
show is the veteran Irish TV presenter Gay Byrne.
Talking to ShowBiz Ireland Gay said "the Who
Wants to be a Millionaire show is the TV phenomenon
of the last 20 years."
The
show has been licensed or optioned in 77 countries.
RTE are set to have an exact replica of the UTV
studio in Dublin and also use the same music and lighting
effects.
The
main difference in the Irish edition of the show will
be the only on twice a week unlike the UK and US shows.
The show will be on for 13 weeks for it's first season
and Gaybo's says they will take it from there after
that.
All the questions in the Irish show will be drawn
up in Ireland and not dumped down like the US show
which made the questions easier for the contestant.
