Arthur's
Knights Invade Dublin...
Back through the midst's of time and legend the majestic
Knights of King Arthur were transported to
present day Dublin to fight for valor and have a good
old-fashioned shindig!

WINSTONE: KING ARTHUR PREMIERE

This
week saw the much anticipated premiere of King Arthur
as the mainly Irish cast and crew got to reunite in
front of the UGC big screen to see the fruits
of their hard work filming this epic movie here last
summer (and also have a little drink in The Lobby
Bar afterwards!).

And
although two of the main protagonists Keira Knightly
(Guinevere) and Arthur himself Clive Owen could
not attend Welsh heartthrob Ioan Gruffudd (Lancelot)
and Cockney Ray Winstone (Bors) had well enough
charisma to keep the gathered media on their toes.

Sadly
for the female contingent Ioan had his spectacular
girlfriend and actress Alice Evans on his arm
that night... All we can say about Alice is that Ioan
is a very, very lucky man!

And
with a mainly supporting Irish cast which includes:
Alan Devine, Ned Dennehy, Pat Kinevane, Dawn Bradfield,
David Wilmot, Bosco Hogan, and David Murray
- ShowBiz Ireland got introduced to some new
faces to watch out for in the future.
ALAN
DEVINE : KING ARTHUR PREMIERE

Singer
Moya Brennan was also in attendance - her voice
features prominently on the soundtrack which adds
an additional mystical Irish quality to the movie
along with the breathtaking Irish countryside.

BRENNAN: KING ARTHUR PREMIERE

The
movie itself is an action-packed sword swinging and
bow bending tale which tries to put into factual context
the legend, which has emerged over the ages, of King
Arthur and his noble Knights.

And
with a budget of €100m, making it the biggest
ever movie made here in Ireland, this Jerry Bruckheimer
flick illustrates just how skilled and quality driven
the Irish film industry is...
Remember
this movie was shot last summer yet the skilled hands
over at Ardmore Studios managed to transform
Powerscourt into a spectacular snow covered mountain.
And no CGI here - these guys actually covered the
mountain in snow!
In
fact one of the most promising things to take away
from this movie in this age of Computer Generated
Imagery is that the filmmakers actually opted for
the real thing in throughout King Arthur.
Other
promising aspects of this movie are the performances
by Ray Winstone, Keira Knightly and Ioan Gruffudd,
the epic battle sequences and Iced Lake scene - marvelous
stuff!
But
for us Clive Owen didn't quite fill Arthur's big boots
as an awe inspiring leader with his pre-battle speeches
falling well short of Mel Gibson's in Braveheart
or Russle Crowe's in Gladiator. His
perfomance is adequate but we don't think the rumours
of Clive being the next James Bond are truly
justified...
King
Arthur goes on general release today so make sure
you get to see it over the long weekend - this one's
a good popcorn muncher and will keep you pinned to
your seat for the two hour running time.
