Compton Gals Moving & Shaking...
There was a wee gathering at The Sugar Club this week for the Hot Press 'Movers & Shakers' Yearbook party - a shindig to announce Who's Who and in the know in the Irish Music Industry (weren't aware Ireland had one!). Not too many familiar faces to talk about folks but at least a few cheeky Compton Models brightened-up the place...

This week saw music bible Hot Press announce the 100 or so most influential peeps in the Irish music industry. We didn't see the actual list per se but we doubt if its changed that much in the past 20 years with stalwarts like Bono, Dave Fanning, Harry Crosbie and Paul McGuinness popping-it-up. O we forgot about The Script, so it probably IS contemporary.

Not trying to knock the Hot Press list but we're finding the Irish Music Industry all a bit meh in the past few years. We're sure we are going to get hammered for saying this, but apart from cheesy pop acts, there is no real Irish Music Industry... And it's not like Irish TV or Radio stations even play upcoming Irish bands anyway. Dead on its arse.

Maybe we just got there late but for a music magazine there was very few actual musicians at the launch eager to see if they had made the hallowed list and thusly deemed influential. We copped Jerry Fish at the do - he was in the most excellent An Emotional Fish about 20 years ago - the last time Ireland actually had a music industry to talk about. A serious revival is required folks.

And going by the guests at the Yearbook launch we reckon it’s a bit like the whole Social & Personal's Most Sexiest Man fiasco - if you turn-up at the party and get snapped you get on the list. Sorry Baz me aul flower, no amount of magazine polls can make you sexy fella - you are Ireland's most goofy looking TV personality. Fact.

Apart from Mr. Fish there was author Marisa Mackle, model Michelle Doherty (former Channel 6 presenter), comedian Joe Rooney, and Compton Models Lauren Bannon and Emily Rose Egan. Magazine editor Niall Stokes was also at the bash.

Maybe we're off the mark, the music industry is suffering badly across the globe with the advent of illegal mp3 download technology. Perhaps record execs aint putting the investment into new bands in Ireland in the same way they did after U2 broke out big style? But even U2’s latest album isn't doing very well – No Sales On The Horizon.

Check out the next edition of Hot Press to get a goo at their 'Movers & Shakers' list... We hope you will be extremely moved followed by a bout of involuntary shaking.
