Harris to Star as Pope...

Veteran Irish actor Richard Harris is to follow up his role in the new Harry Potter film by taking the role of the Pope in a new Hollywood blockbuster. Noel Pearson, the Irish film producer and writer behind the Oscar winning film My Left Foot and The Field in which Harris also starred has told ShowBizIreland.com exclusively that he is planning a movie called Magnifico based on the Bach story.

Speaking in Dublin Castle during a ceremony to honour the Irish Riverdance composer Bill Whelen, Pearson told ShowBizIreland.com, “My next project is a film called Magnifico which comes from Bach and in it Richard Harris will play his first role as a Pope. Filming starts in October.”

Pearson was joined at the party in Dublin Castle by a host of Irish stars to honour Bill Whelen the man who wrote the score for the world famous Riverdance show.

Among the VIP’s who attended were the Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, The Corrs, Jim Sheridan, Paul Brady, Riverdance owners Moya Doherty and John McColgan were also there as was former Riverdance star Jean Butler, U2 manager Paul McGuinness and Brian Kennedy.
