Michael for Irish Music Awards?...
Superstar George Michael may now join up with
his friends Elton John, Sinead O’Connor and
Ronan Keating for a star studded line-up at
Dublin’s Point Theatre on Friday 16 March 2001
(St. Patrick’s weekend) for the Meteor Ireland
Music Awards. Rumors on the ShowBiz circuit in
Dublin are claiming that the former Wham star
has been asked to joined the host of Irish and international
celebrities including Emmylou Harris, JJ72, Lisa
Stansfield, Ash, Damon Hill, Joe Elliot and Rick
Savage of Def Leppard, movie star Matthew
McConaughey, singer-songwriter Gabrielle
and Altan are just some of the stars set to
attend and entertaing guests on the night.
The
Meteor Ireland Music Awards will be recorded for television
and broadcast world-wide to 100 million people over
the festive weekend.
The
event will be broadcast nation-wide by RTE
on N2 on Sunday 18 March at 8:30pm.
The
award sculpture, designed by Irish artist Jim Fitzpatrick,
will be presented to the winners of various categories
including; Best Selling Irish Album, Best Selling
Irish Video, Best Irish Live Act, Critics Album of
the Year, Irish Hope for 2001 and Lifetime Award.
It
is hoped to raise over £100,000 for the Elton John
Aids Foundation and IRMA Trust. No tickets
are available for sale however 1000 tickets, courtesy
of Meteor, will be available to the public via nationwide
competitions on press, radio and TV including The
Irish Times and 2FM.
The
Meteor Ireland Music Awards will incorporate the IRMA’s
and Hot Press Awards and are set to become an annual
highlight of the music calendar. "We’re delighted
that Meteor has joined forces with IRMA for the Meteor
Ireland Music Awards. The awards will celebrate the
success of Irish artists at home and abroad and what
better time to hold this celebration than on the eve
of St. Patrick’s Day", commented Chairman IRMA, Freddie
Middleton.
The
ShowBiz after-show party will take place at Dublin’s
newly opened Guinness Store House. Further
acts and celebrities are to be added to the lineup
and will be announced at a later date.
