Russell
Crowe comes home to roots...
Reports
were circulating yesterday that the actor Russell
Crowe may secretly fly into Ireland tomorrow for
a three-day break.
One
source revealed that the actor was set to come in
to do work on a future movie project in Ireland but
this has not been confirmed.
What
has been confirmed is that the 2002 Oscar loser
does love Irish poetry and he does want to come to
Ireland and go back to his Irish roots as soon as
possible.
Speaking over the weekend to the Irish Sunday World
newspaper Crowe said, "When I found out my family
was originally from Ireland. I naturally wanted to
know more about Ireland and that got me onto the poetry.
I like the clarity and the emotiveness of Kavanagh.
I like how he combines the kind of mystic into really
clear, evocative work that can make you glad you are
alive. I also like Yeats and someone told me
I have got to read Seamus Heaney and Millington
Synge and I will. If you want to get to know literature,
Ireland's the place to be."
The actor also spoke about how he would love to perform
in Ireland with his band Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts
and how he wants to try our Guinness. "Yeah, I like
to do one or two shows about the place. I want to
hang out there for a little while, soon. Like a lot
of Aussie's I'd like to go back to my roots for a
while and get into the culture. I'll have some Guinness
in its home setting and watch some football too."
Crowe also wanted to quell those rumors about the
cutting of his speech and the punch up at the Bafta
Awards. "The press went loony on it but they overdid
the Kavanagh poem part. I mean it was only a one-minute
fifty speech and they cut a minute out of it. The
most important part of it was my thanking John
and Alicia Nash for helping us to make a movie
about their lives. The whole thing was exaggerated.
There was no punch up."
Reports
in the press also claim that Crowe may have lost out
on this years Oscar for his role in A Beautiful
Mind due to his actions at the BAFTA's.
