007 is Licensed to wed in Irish Abbey...

A SECLUDED 800-year-old Co Mayo abbey is to be the setting for Bond star Pierce Brosnan's latest, and most important, assignment, his wedding according to new reports.

Next week Brosnan will wed his fiancee Keely Shey-Smith in the splendid Ballintubber Abbey founded by King Cathal O'Connor, otherwise known as Cathal Mor of the wine-red hand.

The actor was expected to wed in the grounds of Ashford Castle where there is a church. But, now the wedding has been moved to the Abbey as the church on the grounds of the castle is a Protestant one.

However, the subsequent reception will be held at the luxurious Ashford Castle in Cong. A fleet of limousines and a wedding car will ferry the couple and guests from Dublin to Mayo on Saturday. All the rooms in Ashford Castle where guests have included Ronald Reagan, Prince Edward and Jack Nicholson have been booked out for the wedding.

A road smash in which Brosnan's 16-year-old son Sean was injured hasn't delayed the wedding. Sean, an only son from Brosnan's marriage to the late Cassandra Harris, has made a good recovery.
