Kidman
DJs at Cannes opening...
Hollywood
star Nicole Kidman celebrated the opening of
her new movie Moulin Rouge (which includes
music by Bono and Gavin Friday) by trying
her hand at DJ-ing as she partied into the early hours.
The
Australian actress, who had earlier thrilled crowds
at the premiere of the glamorous musical movie, took
to the decks at the after-show party in the French
resort of Cannes.
And
she received a helping hand from celebrity DJ Fatboy
Slim who worked on the soundtrack of the film.
Moulin
Rouge, by director Baz Luhrmann, opened the
54th annual film showcase last night with a star-studded
screening. After the premiere Kidman donned a set
of headphones and joined Fatboy Slim, aka Norman
Cook, spinning discs at an exclusive party in
a specially custom-built venue.
Earlier
in the evening Cook had fallen foul of the strict
dress code operating at the black tie premiere. The
DJ, who was wearing an open-necked grey shirt, was
turned away at the doors of the Palais des Festivals
for not wearing a bow tie.
But
after a word to the officials from his wife, former
Radio 1 DJ Zoe Ball, he was allowed to take
his seat.
Kidman,
who recently split from husband Tom Cruise
and has also suffered a miscarriage, appeared happy
and relaxed at the party chatting with guests and
dancing.
Moulin
Rouge is a song and dance spectacular set in the famous
Parisian nightclub at the turn of the 20th century.
The party, which continued well into the early hours,
followed the movie's theme with can-can dancers and
cabaret performers providing a spectacular floorshow.
The
Cannes Film Festival continues until May 20.
