REM in Witnness Lineup...
Despite
months of gossip, REM will not top the bill
at this years Witnness festival... the band
recorded most of their latest album in Dublin earlier
last year.
Ireland's only 2 day, multi-stage festival is back
but the bands record company have confirmed that the
band are bringing out a new album but they will not
be having a world tour with it - therefore quashing
any chances there are of them playing Witnness.
Last
year Micheal Stipe from REM partied at the
festival but it now looks like he will not perform
this year.

This
years Witnness festival will take place on August
4th & 5th 2001 in Fairyhouse. At a launch in Dublin
on Wednesday night it was announced that the following
artists have already confirmed for this years event
they include...
During
the festival five stages will transform Fairyhouse
with Witnness Main, Witnness More, Witnness Dance,
Witnness Rising and a fifth special stage (details
tba). All stages represent the best in their fields
but Witnness offers more than the biggest stars -
it offers a platform to develop new artists, VIP treatment
for the fans as well as media and industry but perhaps
most importantly, the only true music event which
truly offers a weekend escape with your mates.
Last
year a few fledgling artists who performed at the
first ever Witnness festival have gone on to greater
things, namely JJ72, Badly Drawn Boy, Doves, Idlewild,
MJ Cole, Toploader and The Delgado's.
Witnness
proved to be a great success last summer when over
35,000 people caught a huge selection of great international
and Irish acts over just one weekend.
Beck,
Travis, Ocean Colour Scene, David Gray, the Undertones,
JJ72 and the All Saints performed alongside some of
the world's hottest DJs including Leftfield, Masters
at Work, Roni Size and Groove Armada.
