Pavarotti
goes from Ronan to Tom...
Opera
maestro Luciano Pavarotti last night belt out
the Welsh terrace chant Delilah - in Italian!
The tenor performed it at his annual charity concert
in his hometown of Modena in Italy alongside the song's
original hitmaker Tom Jones. Previous collaborations
have seen him team up with the Spice Girls
and Ronan Keating in past years.
Pavarotti
told PA News: "Delilah - it's like a wonderful
Neapolitan song and it really sounds right in Italian.
I'm a big fan of Tom Jones and this is definitely
one of my favourite of his songs."
Jones, who scored a number two hit with the song in
1968, will perform his section in English while Pavarotti
will do his section in his native tongue.
Other collaborations for Pavarotti during the concert
will include duets with Barry White and Anastacia.
He will also join British-based female string quartet
Bond and pop act Morcheeba for the show
which will raise cash for Afghan refugees.
Afghan
youngsters will be joining an Italian children's choir
during the event. Among guests for the concert will
be Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael
Douglas, who like Pavarotti is a United Nations
messenger for peace.
Previous
shows have seen the tenor raise millions of pounds
for children's medical and educational initiatives
in the Balkans, Liberia and Tibet.
