Rhys Meyers to Bend the US...

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is about to hit the USA as his latest film Bend it Like Beckham is set to kick off on the other side of the Atlantic.

Press reports state that US distributors have bought the rights to British film and intend to release it across America after its huge success in the UK and Ireland.

The film that centres on an Asian girl who joins a women's football team has been a box office success so far, making over 2 million in its opening weekend.

Now its makers hope it will do the same in the US where British comedy The Full Monty was a surprise hit.

The leading character in the film, played by Parminder Nagra, has a bedroom plastered with pictures of her idol Beckham. She also falls for her dashing football coach who happens to be Corkonian actor Rhys Meyers.

Fox Searchlight Pictures announced last night that it had bought the rights and also plan to distribute the film in South America.
