Stereophonics
to Headline Slane...
After
month of gossip the Welsh band The Stereophonics
are to play this years Slane concert on August 24th.
The
rumour machine had gone into overdrive recently with
the word on the street being that Madonna and
The Rolling Stones were both top of the bill
to play the 80,000 capacity venue this summer.

Supporting
the band will be the America rockers Nickelback,
Doves, Counting Crows and The Revs.
The
Stereophonics were in Dublin yesterday for the announcement
of the lineup and even received two awards for the
work in Ireland this year.
In
Dublin's Four Seasons Hotel they were presented
with the Meteor Irish Music Award which they
won in March for the Best International Band.
To mark the occasion the band also received a Special
Industry Award for record sales in the Rep. of Ireland
for 250,000 units.
Speaking
at the launch the Stereophonics frontman Kelly
Jones told ShowBizIreland.com, "You look
at the legends who've headlined Slane and I think
festival-wise, it's one of the biggest deals around
and we're absolutely thrilled to be doing it."
Slane Castle owner, Lord Henry Mountcharles said,
"We needed somebody really special to follow U2
and we've got that with the Stereophonics who are
a world class live act. I've seen them several times
and they've never failed to deliver a stunning live
show. I'm delighted about the quality of the support
bill, which MCD assembled.
There's always a sense of anticipation surrounding
the festival and I think the 21st Anniversary of concerts
at Slane Castle is going to be extra special."
Tickets
will be priced at 49.50 (including booking fee) and
will go on sale at 9am on Saturday June 15th.
