Gleeson gives voice to animation...
Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, star of MI-2, is to be the voice in the new movie about Ireland's historical Book of Kells which is being brought to animated life by The Cartoon Saloon in their new feature film, Rebel.
The film is inspired by the distinctive art of the Book of Kells and based on solid research into illuminated manuscripts and Irish monasteries.
Rebel is an historical fantasy about the story of two monks who escape from the Viking attack on the island of Iona and their struggle to complete what was to become the famous Book of Kells.
The film is directed by Aidan Harte and Tom Moore and will feature the
voice talent of Gleeson together with the music of Kila and Kieran Goss.
Rebel is the flagship project from The Cartoon Saloon, a studio of 13
members, 12 of whom attended Ballyfermot Senior College in Dublin, rated as
one of the top three animation colleges in the world and an education
partner with Disney.
Three of The Cartoon Saloon members won internships in
the Paris Disney studios. Based in Kilkenny, Cartoon Saloon is an umbrella
company of The Young Irish Film Makers (YIFM), the youngest professional
film studio in the world, whose patrons include John Boorman, Gabriel
Byrne, Patrick Bergin and Neil Jordan.
TG4 have agreed to give Cartoon Saloon an enhanced license fee to screen
Rebel once it is completed, and Cartoon Saloon are now actively looking for
assistance with the financing of the project. The company will be
launched officially during the Animation Festival in Dublin on November
18.
