It's curtains for O'Toole...
The veteran Irish born actor Peter O'Toole, star of Lawrence of Arabia is
the latest actor to sign on for The Final Curtain - the next film out of the
stable of John Hodge.
Talking to the English press O'Toole was characteristically enthusiastic
about the project, ''Fabulous, fabulous. It's a great script, an amazing
role."
O'Toole plays TV personality - J J Curtis who enters into combat with a
young upstart to showbusiness (played by Queer as Folk Aidan Gillen). In
an effort to gain the upper hand, Curtis employs a ghost writer to write a
glorified biography only to hate the results.
At 68 O'Toole's career shows no signs of tailing off, but the actor is
adamant that he'll know when to bow out. "One of the lovely things about
being an actor is that you can go on for ever - although I have no
intention of uttering my last words on the stage... In f***ing Macclesfield
or something... Room service and a couple of depraved young women will do me
quite nicely for an exit."
Final Curtain, which also stars Julia Sawalha and Adrian Lester, is the
first film for Hodge without his usual directing partner Danny Boyle. The
duo said, whilst publicising The Beach, that if it wasn't a success it
would be the last film they made together.
Meanwhile reports are that fellow Irish actor Richard Harris who
turned 70 last week with a massive bash in Dublin is now said to have taken
up the role as Harry Potter's headmaster in the first Harry Potter movie.
