Day-Lewis to play Samuel Beckett...
The Irish based actor Daniel Day-Lewis (who won an Oscar for Jim Sheridan's
My Left Foot) is reported to keen to play Irish playwright Samuel Beckett in
a biopic set to go into production next year.
Day-Lewis's may return to movie making in Ireland if the project goes ahead.
His last film was back in 1997 when he starred in Jim Sheridan's movie The Boxer.
Day-Lewis is currently filming Martin Scorsese's Gangs Of New York with
Leonardo
DiCaprio and another Irish actor Liam Neeson.
Day-Lewis, who won his Oscar for playing paraplegic Irish writer Christy
Brown in
1989's My Left Foot, lives in Ireland and holds an Irish passport.
His friend and the Irish film Producer Noel Pearson, who worked with
Day-Lewis on My
Left Foot, told The English newspaper the Daily Express that Day-Lewis was
his first
choice to play the reclusive author of Waiting For Godot and
Krapp's Last Tape.
According to Empire Online the film will be based on Anthony Cronin's biography of Beckett, who was
born in Dublin and died aged 83 in 1989.
