PAUL MARTIN
Duffy
tells f***ing crowd to wake up...
Ex Boyzone star Keith Duffy launched
an amazing verbal attack on his audience and record
company bosses during a televised awards bash.
The
millionaire singer turned on the crowd at the end
of the Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Awards
when he branded them: "The most dead f***ing audiance
ever."
His
outburst was one of many controversial moments during
the night that TV viewers did not see which included:
-
Comic
May McFetridge saying pop star Naimee
Coleman had only won sexiest woman because Andrea
Corr had gone through a car windscreen.
-
The
drag queen comic branding a top show sponsor: "A
dick from London."
-
Dublin
boy band In Focus turning up late for their
performance then telling the crowd: "We were out
there getting drunk - what do you expect - we're
Irish."
TV3's coverage of the show had to be drastically
edited after a series of controversial on-stage outbursts
by stars. At the end of the night Show host Duffy shocked
the subdued crowd which included top record company
figures from BMG and Sony and TV crews
when he slammed: "You're a load of b***ocks - you've
been sitting there motionless all night. You're here
to enjoy yourself for f*** sake. You're the most dead
f***ing audiance ever. We're Irish for f*** sake - we're
meant to know how to enjoy ourselves."
Duffy's
outburst received a rousing cheer from some of the audiance
after stars including Westlife, Ronan Keating
and Graham Norton scooped top awards.
Throughout
the evening Duffy and co-host Emma Ledden put
on a slick show at the £1000 a table bash at the posh
Europa Hotel in Belfast.
But by the end of the night a frustrated Duffy apologised
to his wife Lisa, who was watching from the crowd,
before launching the four-lettered outburst.
Last
night, a show insider said: "Keith put on a brilliant
performance and was just right to speak his mind. There
were a lot of people in the audiance who were more interested
in getting drunk and chatting amongst themselves than
watching the awards. In the end Keith said what many
of us were thinking - he's a legend."
Then Sexiest Female winner Naimee Coleman was stunned
when outspoken comic May McFetridge told the crowd:
"How did she win? Did Andrea Corr go through the windscreen
of her car?"
Naimee
put on a brave face but was left speechless by the outburst.
Drag-queen McFetridge then turned on a representative
from Coors - the show sponsores - calling him:
"A dick from London."
Duffy's
night got off to a tricky start when boy band In Focus
turned up on stage to perform five minutes after they
were introduced to the crowd. "We're from Dublin and
we were out there getting drunk when someone told us
we were meant to be on," one of the embarrassed singers
told the audiance when they finally made it to the stage.
As
the crowd waited for them to appear Duffy joked: "Would
In Focus kindly come in to focus? They'll learn how
to do this boy band thing after a while."
A
show spokesman said: "The Buzz Awards are becoming the
most controversial and exciting night in Irish ShowBiz
and everyone thought Keith and Emma did a brilliant
job."
