Luvvies Jet in for Harold Pinter...

To many of the readers of these pages the name Harold Pinter may have no significance but to those in-the-know in theatrical circles the man is a living legend...

When ShowBiz Ireland got the call that some of the biggest legends of stage and screen were getting together last weekend in Dublin to celebrate the 75th Birthday of Playwright and actor Harold Pinter we tentatively said: "Harold who?"

As we're not really known for our intrusion into the highbrow world of ShowBiz (maybe the phrase "gutter-press" suits us better!), we thought we'd better investigate Harold and his chums to see what all the fuss was about...

And, as it turns out Mr. Pinter has had an illustrious career encompassing stage, screen and radio - he has also had a very long association with our very own Gate Theatre, bringing many big name actors to Dublin to appear in his productions over the years.

So it was no wonder that some of the best known luvvies in-the-business gathered in the Merrion Hotel for tea and sandwiches, and later at The Unicorn Restaurant for Harold's Birthday Party, at the weekend.

And apart from quality Irish actors Michael Gambon (that's Sir to you son), Alan Stanford and Sinead Cusack and Gate Theatre Director Michael McColgan, some of the UK's finest thespians turned out for the celebration...
