Roseanne Bobbles For Obama...
Poor auld John McCain can't get a break with his failing US President campaign with only a few days to go. Even when it comes to Bobbleheads his shoo-in buddy Barack Obama gets Roseanne Barr's vote. Well at least he did when Gerry Ryan hosted the Late Late Show last Friday night...

Roseanne Barr |
Last weekend saw a host of stars lining up to put shock-jock Gerry Ryan through his paces when he took over from a mourning Pat Kenny for-one-night-only due to a family bereavement. A welcome break from Pat's polished formulaic presenting style we thought.

Roseanne Barr |
And big mouth Ger sure did have his work-cut-out for him with a queue of guests that would leave most veteran interviewers peeing in their boots. But Ryan's anarchic streak kinda fitted with his anarchy prone guests which included Roseanne Barr, Tony Curtis, Richard Madeley, Tommy Tiernan and wee Daniel O'Donnell...

Roseanne Barr, Mystery Man |
During her interview US comedienne Roseanne Barr held back nothing in her support for Barak Obama even nicking two Bobbleheads of the US presidential candidates used as the show’s props. Although, we really wished Gerry had asked Rosie about deceased Dubliner Glenn Quinn who starred with her on the 'Roseanne' show back in her hay-day. Tragically Glenn died of a heroin overdose in 2002. We still miss that talented kid folks.

Tony Curtis, Jill Vandenberg |
Proper movie legend Tony Curtis was The Late Late’s first guest on Friday night, helped into the studio by his much much much younger fifth wife Jill Vandenberg. Hilariously Tony quipped on the show: "if she dies she dies!"
|
Tony Curtis |
A slightly difficult guest for debutante Ryan, veteran movie star Curtis may be old and frail but that didn't stop him directing the pace of the interview and even slipping past an uncomfortable question about his deceased son with ease.
|
Richard Madeley |
The worst part of TV spouse combo Richard & Judy, Richard Madeley, gave Gerry a restbite between offbeat guests which included controversial for controversy's sake comedian Tommy Tiernan. Bordering on racial bigotry each time he opened his gob, the bould Tiernan had poor Gerry sweating in his seat and Gay Byrne spinning in his grave (even though reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated).
|
Leon Jackson, Mystery Lady |
With a mystery lady in tow X Factor winner Leon Jackson provided the musical interlude in the world's longest running chat show. Our own Daniel O'Donnell was also coaxed (wasn't at all planned) into singing a wee ditty on the show as his proud and protective wife Majella looked on...
|
Daniel O'Donnell, wife Majella O'Donnell |
Our paparazzi trained eagle eyes even spotted one of Gerry's daughters Lottie in the Late Late's TV studio audience - although we doubt if his recently separated wife Morah was there in the crowd beaming with glee for her ex-hubbie.
|
Tony Curtis, Leon Jackson fans |
All-in-all we reckon Gerry Ryan could take over Pat Kenny's hot-seat any day and we'd all keep watching... His baptism-by-fire debut is proof of that folks. Well done Mr. Ryan. But talk about in-at-the-deep-end!
