Gwyneth paltrow falls ill before U2 bash...

OSCAR-WINNING actress Gwyneth Paltrow was confined to her suite in U2's Clarence Hotel in Dublin on Saturday night after being hit by a mystery illness. Well that was the official line anyway....The stunning actress jetted into Dublin secretly yesterday to attend a celebrity birthday party with U2 singer Bono, his wife Ali, REM lead singer Michael Stipe and the international supermodel Helena Christensen.

Sources close to the actress said she was ill and resting in her suite in the Clarence Hotel and was unable to attend the bash. However, later on Saturday night the actress did leave her hotel to drink in the Morrision Hotel which was designed by the Irish based John Rocha.

Without the actress another 20 VIP guests attended the birthday party in the glamorous surrounds of Conrad Gallagher's Peacock Alley restaurant on Saint Stephen's Green.

Kicking off at 10pm, Karla Elliot, now girlfriend of the superchef and former wife of Def Leopard star Joe Elliot was one of the first to arrive in followed by Irish designer Macari Brennan.

Arriving one after another, a fleet of limousines pulled up outside the restaurant carrying Bono and Ali Hewson, Michael Stipe, REM's producer Mike Mills and Helena Christensen holding hands with her partner.

A limousine even brought the birthday cake to the restaurant. It's believed the party was for a mutual friend of Bono's and Michael Stipe's.
