Madonna to top U2 at Slane?

The Queen of Pop, Madonna is being lined up to play her first Irish concert ever in Slane Castle next summer.

Sources close to promoters MCD of the Slane concerts have told ShowBizIreland.com that the material girl is the only artist in the world who could top this years U2 concerts.

"We are always in talks about concerts and we have been in talks with Madonna's people about next year's Slane concert. She is really the only star who could draw as big a crowd as U2 did this year. Nothing has been signed yet but we are still talking and hoping that she will agree to play Slane at the end of next August."

Another material girl due on these shores over the next few weeks is the supermodel Elle McPherson. The leggy blond is due into Brown Thomas in Dublin during the first week in October. Elle will be in to launch her new lingerie range in the store.

Also, Bono's best friend Gavin Friday will start a week's shows in Dublin's Tivoli theatre with his songwriting partner Maurice Seezer as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival.

The show is called "Ich Liebe Dich," which is German for I love you and will include the music of Kurt Weil.

Friday and Seezer most recently worked on a song with Bono for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.
