Louis
Walsh, You're a Star!!
Get ready for Louis Walsh and RTE's
latest talent search next week with the launch of
You're A Star auditions all over Ireland.
These
begin on September 9th in Dublin, Southside, at The
Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire and will travel to
a further eight locations nationwide before culminating
back in Dublin, Northside, for a second audition run
in early October.
The show will go to air on Sunday 27th October on
RTE1 at 6.30pm.
The
TV show introduces a new TV format, which incorporates
voting from the public from the very outset. Programmes
1- 10 will set the show up, and will incorporate the
auditions held nationwide in the coming month.
Following each show, the public will be asked to vote
for their favorite act to go forward to the next stage
in the competition.
Programmes
11 - 19 get down to the knock out stage where the
public will be asked to vote from the finalists down
to the You're a Star winner.
Louis
Walsh, Ireland's own Pop Supremo will join the panel
for phase two of the show.
Programme
20 will decide the winning song to be sung by the
winning act in Eurovision 2003.
The production company behind the show is ShinAwiL
productions, the same company who brought TV viewers
Popstars, the highest rated TV show ever in
Irish broadcasting.
The producer/director of the series will be Lynda
McQuaid, who was the series producer/director
on Popstars. Commenting on today's announcement, Larry
Bass, ShinAwiL productions said:
"You're
a Star is going to be the biggest TV show ever to
hit Irish TV screens! We believe that the format we
have devised, combined with the considerable experience
and talent of the judging panel, the show presenter
and our production crew, together with the support
of our sponsor O2, ensure the guaranteed success
of You're a Star in the coming months. We anticipate
over 10,000 people will audition in the coming weeks
for the show, so we need the very best team behind
us to ensure everyone auditioning has a chance to
be a star along the way!"
Kevin Linehan, Commissioning Editor of Music
and Young Peoples Programming for RTE continued: "RTE
has always and continues to be committed to the development
of musical talent in this country. Following on the
success of last year's Popstars, devised jointly with
ShinAwiL, the new format You're a Star is set to be
the biggest talent trawl ever held throughout the
32 counties. The winner will also have a unique launch
pad for what we believe will be a glittering career.
The
last talent contest run by RTE called Let me Entertain
You had amongst its finalists a young woman who
as a result of the show was signed up by Louis Walsh
- her name was Samantha Mumba. We hope with
You're A Star to uncover similar exciting young Irish
talent, and we are depending on our viewers to help
us in this search. The viewers will be the final judges!"
