Paul's Gang Celebrate Birthday...

Living Screen Idol Paul Newman jetted into Dublin over the weekend to join in the celebrations for 10th Birthday of his charity The Barretstown Gang...

He may be the star of classic movies such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Cool Hand Luke, have the most famous blue eyes on the planet, and a tasty sauce range toboot but the only thing Paul Newman really cares about is the welfare of sick children.

Such is his passion he set up the Barretstown charity in Co Kildare back in 1994 and to date over 10,000 children with cancer and other serious illness have benefited from his vital charity.

And although in his late 70's the first thing Mr. Newman did when he hit our shores was to test drive the new Porsche 911 S around the Mondello race course and stunned staff with his driving ability and knowledge of high performance automobiles.

On Saturday Paul partied with 700 children who have taken part in his programme over the years at a special Serious Fun Day filled with every type of entertainment possible to tempt a child's imagination.

And on Saturday night the serious business of the Gala Ball, which attempts to raise much needed money for the charity, took place. And with tickets at only 500-a-head, with guests like The Edge and Paul McCartney, it was well worth the money.

On the night 175,000 euro was raised for the Porsche, 55,000 for a guitar signed by The Edge and McCartney, and piles of cash for the other highly desirable items up for auction...
