Dublin girl has the Model look...

An 18 year old from Dublin is in with a real chance of making fashion history after being named the Irish winner in the Ariel Model 2001 Competition. Beating off hundreds of other wannabe models from all over Ireland, Kristin Hawthorne could be the first ever competition winner to make her modelling debut on the catwalk at London Fashion Week.

Kristin will now travel to London on Tuesday, January 16th 2001 to meet the style panel, including Supermodel Yasmin Le Bon, hot designer Matthew Williamson whose clothes the Ariel Model 2001 will showcase at London Fashion Week, and Ellis - Chief Scout for leading agency Models 1. If selected and named Ariel Model 2001, Kristin will make the transformation from local lovely to catwalk Queen rubbing shoulders with some of the modelling world's biggest names at a leading show on the London Fashion Week calendar.

Matthew Williamson's show last season (September 2000) saw Yasmin Le Bon return to the catwalk, and Jodie Kidd, Jasmine Guinness and model of the year, Liberty, were just some of the top names to take to his 200ft catwalk.

Said judge Ellis, Chief Scout from Models 1: "I've been scouting for 14 years and this is the first time - that I'm aware of - where an unknown gets to debut her career at London Fashion Week. This is a real opportunity for a girl like Kristin to showcase her talents in front of some of the most influential people in fashion.

The eyes of the world's top fashion editors plus international photographers will be on her at the show." The Ariel Model 2001 will spend two exciting all expenses paid weeks in London getting ready for her big break, with tips and advice sessions from Yasmin and her agency Models 1, fittings for the show with the leading fashion designer, a portfolio shot from a top fashion photographer, not to mention collecting her stunning outfit by the designer himself.

Kristin response to news of her win made a real impact: "It was a bit of a shock, I was asleep when the post arrived and my Mom came into my room with a big brown envelope. I was really nervous and very excited when I discovered that I was one of the 12 finalists."

As the Irish winner, Kristin has won an introduction to one of the UK's leading model agencies, Models 1 plus �250 to spend on clothes, and a year's supply of Ariel Colour, to help keep her clothes looking bright.
