Byrne persuades Dotrice to be his father...

Irish actor GABRIEL BYRNE persuaded the British actor Roy Dotrice to star with him in his new television series, Madigan Men, of which Byrne is also the executive producer. Dublin-born Byrne and Dotrice previously starred together on stage in the Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's Moon for the Misbegotten, that closed this summer.

Dotrice recalled: "One day we were chatting and Gabriel said, 'I have this idea for three generations of Irish men: would you be interested in playing my father?'"

The half-hour situation-comedy marks Byrne's first foray into television. He plays Ben Madigan, a New York architect who lives with his teenage son and his recently arrived father, Seamus Madigan, played by Dotrice.
