Neeson
returning to the Stage...
Liam
Neeson is taking a page out of Hollywood actor
Jason Patric's book and returning to the stage.
Patric who hit the Dublin stage last week in Bash
at the Gate Theatre will now be followed by the big
Irish actor who will take huge pay cut to go back
to theatre.
The
Irish star will return to Broadway in a revival of
Arthur Miller's 1953 classic The Crucible.
Neeson will play the hero John Proctor, whose
courageous stand against the mass hysteria costs him
his life in the Salem witch trials drama.
The
Ballymena born star has reportedly a soft spot for
New York after falling for his wife Natasha Richardson
during his debut in 1993 of Eugene O'Neill's
Anna Christie. His
performance also earned him a Tony Award.
He last appeared on Broadway in 1997 during a showing
of Oscar Wilde's, Judas Kiss. The show
will run next February and the producer David Richenthal
has already hired director Richard Eyre for
the 15-week stint. He
also directed Liam in the Judas Kiss.
Neeson's
pay packet for the role will be as low as $1,750 (£1,200)
a week plus a share of the box office for taking the
role.
Theatre is where he started years ago by making his
Irish debut in 1976 at Belfast's Lyric Players Theatre
in The Risen People.
