Gangs of New York...
ShowBizIreland.com has seen the final draft
of the script of Martin Scorsese's new film
The Gangs of New York. In the movie the story
starts with Irish actor Liam Neeson playing
the role of Leoardo DiCaprio's father. Neeson plays
Priest Vallon and is killed off in the first
few scenes of the movie by the Irish based actor Daniel
Day-Lewis who plays Bill "The Butcher" Poole.
The movie is set in New York's five points in the
mid 1800's, reputedly the most violent place in the
world at theat time.
Dicaprio
plays an Irish American (son of Liam Neeson) called
Amsterdam Vallon. He grows up in a Borstal
after Day Lewis who plays an Italian mobster kills
Neeson in the first 15 mins of the movie. The
movie starts off with DiCaprio as a boy then moves
forward 20 years after Neeson Dies.
DiCaprio
later joins up with another Irish actor Brendan
Gleeson (plays a character called Monk
from Donegal) to get revenge on Day-Lewis. Along the
way he finds a love interest in Cameron Dias
who plays a prostitute.
ShowBizIreland.com has also learn that Irish
actor Gleeson is massively popular with both Scorsese
and Stephen Spielberg. This is not due to the
fact that Scorsese's daughter is studying in Dublin's
Trinity College and that Gleeson used to be a
teacher. But more in the fact that both Scorsese and
fellow film guru Spielberg have set their working
calendars around that of the Irishman Gleeson so to
ensure both get to use the talented actor.
