Neeson Replaced in The Exorcist...

Sweden's Stellen Skarsgard will star in the prequel to classic movie The Exorcist - Exorcist: The Beginning - as a replacement to Irish star Liam Neeson.

Neeson dropped out of the project because of scheduling conflicts with the British movie Love Actually, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paul Schrader is directing the prequel which begins shooting in November in Morocco before moving to England.

Actors Gabriel Mann and Billy Crawford will also appear in the film which traces the story of Father Merrin (Skarsgard) and his first encounter with the devil while doing missionary work in post-Second World War Africa.

While there, Merrin suffers from the horrors of war and loses his faith. When he meets the devil, he has to fight to save his beliefs.

Skarsgard next stars in City of Ghosts which is directed by Matt Dillon who also appears in the film.

Skarsgard's movie credits include Good Will Hunting, Amistad and The Glass House.
