news Neeson's
injuries go critical...
Leading
Irish actor Liam Neeson (star of Michael
Collins and Star Wars) had to be transferred
to a specialist hospital in New York for critical
surgery after a motorbike accident last week according
to reports in the Irish media. The star retained injuries
including a fractured pelvis. However, while Neeson's
injuries are not life-threatening they remain "quite
serious" one source told the Irish newspaper Ireland
On Sunday.
As
reported last week in ShowBiz Ireland Neeson
(48) was riding his motorcycle near his home in Albany,
New York last Tuesday when he collided with a deer.
The Ballymena born Oscar nominee suffered a fractured
right pelvis, a chipped left pelvis and multiple cuts
to his legs.
According
to the local sheriff's office the actor was expected
to make a full recovery. However, on Thursday he was
moved to the elite hospital for special surgery in
down-town Manhattan for an operation to stop internal
bleeding.
He
has been in intensive care at the hospital since then.
The hospital is famed as a centre for orthopedic care
and this month was ranked second on a list of 6,300
hospitals across the US in that specialty.
The
134-bed hospital is world renowned for its research
in musculoskelcal disorders. A number of top athletes
are patients at the hospital and its physicians are
designated team doctors to the New York Giants
American football team and the New York Mets
baseball team, as well as the US Davis Cup
tennis team.
