Director
Les Mayfield says he was reluctant to cast
the Dublin actor Colin Farrell as the American
outlaw Jesse James in American Outlaws.
"The idea of an Irish person playing Jesse James
didn't seem right until I met Colin," he says.
"Then I couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather
have as the star of the movie. He personifies the
spirit of the gentleman outlaw."

Caan co-stars in the story of the train-robbing
James gang, although Mayfield admits: "We don't
pretend to be historically accurate. We're going more
for the myth of Jesse James.''
Farrell,
who can now command five million dollars per film,
will soon be seen co-starring with Tom Cruise
in Stephen Spielberg's Minority Report.
He has also just signed to star with Al Pacino
in the suspense thriller The Farm, portraying
a young CIA agent who is double-crossed by his mentor.
