The
Race for Colin The Great...
Hollywood has plans for several epics featuring the
historical figure Alexander The Great, and
Irish actor Colin
Farrell is first in line.
The
director of JFK, Oliver Stone, intends
to start making an Alexander The Great biopic starring
Farrell.
However,
Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhramann
and veteran Italian producer Dino De Laurentis
believe they will win the race to make a sweeping
epic biopic of the man.
They
hope to start shooting in January. The
pair have the go ahead from Universal Pictures and
20th Century Fox for the film.
They will also have the cooperation of a movie fan
named Mohammad VI, who is the 39-year-old king
of Morocco. He will contribute around 1,500 members
of his army to the production.
And Martin Scorsese had also announced plans
for an Alexander movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio
but he will first make a movie about Howard Hughes
with DiCaprio.
He
is still waiting to release the Irish gangland movie
Gangs of New York.
Luhrmann
told Variety magazine he sees Alexander as "the
world's first rock star... a fantastic freak of nature
whose battles against the Persians changed the course
of world history."
Luhrmann
has yet to confirm the cast for Alexander.
