Farrell
& Cruise please Majority Crowd...
Tom Cruise and Colin
Farrell delighted his fans by going walkabout
at the British premiere of their latest film Minority
Report.
Dublin
born actor Farrell plays Cruise's nemesis in the film,
Detective Ed Witwer.
London's
Leicester Square was packed with 3,000 people hoping
Cruise would do his customary mingling with the crowd
and he did not disappoint.
The
actor spent 90 minutes signing autographs and chatting
on fans' mobile phones, just as he did at last year's
premiere of Vanilla Sky. Cruise, 39, said his
only problem was getting the people on the other end
of the line to believe it was really him.
"It's
great fun to chat to people's friends and family members
on the phone. I just say 'hello, how are you', but
most of the time they don't believe it's me. So sometimes
they hang up on me."
Cruise
and his former wife Nicola Kidman previously
spent months living in the capital when they filmed
Eyes Wide Shut and the star said he was delighted
to be back.
He
said: "It's really nice to spend time here and
I am always very excited about coming to London. I
am always surprised that so many people show up to
see me and I just want them to know how much I appreciate
it."
The Mission Impossible star arrived for the
premiere at the Odeon in Leicester Square last night
sporting braces on his teeth after having them fitted
four months ago to correct his famous toothy grin.
Minority
Report is directed by Steven Spielberg and
is tipped to be one of this summer's blockbuster movies.
Cruise plays a police officer in Washington DC in
2054 when psychic technology is used to predict crimes
and so arrest the murderers before they commit them.
But the tables turn when Cruise himself is identified
as a future murderer of a man he has never met and
sets off in a race against time to find his intended
victim and avert the crime.
His
other co-star in the 80 million dollar film along
with Farrell is British actress Samantha Morton,
who plays one of the psychics.
The 25-year-old actress, brought up in foster care
in Nottingham, first made her name playing a prostitute
in the TV series Band of Gold and went on to
earn an Oscar nomination for her role in a Woody
Allen film Sweet and Lowdown.
The
after show party was held at City Hall, the futuristic
new offices of the London Assembly on the south bank
of the Thames. The building will not formally be opened
for another few weeks but the organisers of last night's
premiere managed to hire it out for the occasion.
Cruise
failed to make it to the party, but Mayor Ken Livingstone
was in attendance.
