Colin Charms the US Media...
The world's busiest actor Dublin lad Colin
Farrell is being pushed forward by the US
media as the next Lawrence Olivier.
The
New York Post has recommended that Farrell be
cast as the romantic lead, Heathcliff, in the
Emily Bronte classic Wuthering Heights.
A role, in their opinion, bested by the Lawrence Olivier
in 1939.
The papers gossip columnist Liz Smith said
in her column:
--
Last month's Vanity Fair had a sexy Colin Farrell
on the cover and inside he was predictably brash,
profane and hard-drinking. He's a rebel and he'll
never never be any good, as the 1960's song by the
Crystals goes.
Anyway,
it struck me - all his dark intensity, charm and talent
- wouldn't Colin be perfect playing the tortured Heathcliff
in "Wuthering Heights" should anybody want to produce
a new version of the classic Bronte romance?
And
while we're casting, how about Winona Ryder as
the "wild and beautiful" Cathy who breaks Heathcliff's
heart?
Lawrence Olivier and Merle Oberon played these
characters to a fare-thee-well back in the fabulous
1939 movie, but now we feel this great material is
worth another shot, even if nothing can ever replace
the original. --
Maybe
Liz, if only our Colin had the time!!
