O'Toole
Gets Honoured by Oscar...
Legendary Irish actor Peter O'Toole finally
got his hands on an Oscar last night after
being nominated seven times in the past - other Irish
hopes were not so successful.
There
were many Irish hopes at the 75th Annual Academy
Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood
with U2, Daniel Day-Lewis and The Gangs
of New York all up for nominations.
But
unfortunately Irish eyes were not smiling.
Although
U2 played a stirring performance on the night their
song The Hands That Built America lost out
to Eminem's 8 Mile theme.
Irish
actor Colin Farrell's star quality shined through
as he introduced the band and retorted to presenter
Steve Martin's "rehab" quip.
Colin
attended the show with his sister Claudine
and pregnant girlfriend Kim Bordenave.
Irish
based actor Daniel Day-Lewis lost the best actor category
to The Pianist's Adrien Brody.
But
the highlight of the night was the Lifetime Achievement
Award which went to Peter O'Toole who joked, "Always
a bridesmaid never a bride, my foot - I now have my
own Oscar now until death do us part."
O'Toole
also paid homage to actors who have now passed on,
a obvious tip of his hat to the late Richard Harris
who died recently.
