Brosnan's
Tailored as anti-hero...
The British director John Boorman has been
tinkering with his film The Tailor of Panama
following mixed reviews at test screenings. Based
on the novel by John Le Carre, the film stars
Geoffrey Rush in the title role and Pierce
Brosnan as a seedy and treacherous spy. Boorman,
whose previous films include Deliverance, Point
Blank and Hope and Glory, acknowledges
the film presents a marketing challenge because people
expecting to see Brosnan as a dashing, James Bond-type
will be disappointed.
Columbia
Pictures brought people into test screenings by asking
them if they wanted to see Brosnan playing a spy,
Boorman tells Daily Variety. "Then when they
saw him playing an anti-Bond and doing all these truly
evil things it was a disappointment for them."
Meanwhile
another Irish actor Liam
Neeson has been unable to find the Schindler's
List script which he intended to donate to the
celebrity memorabilia auction he has been organising
to benefit UNICEF's African programme. "I must
have left it somewhere in Poland," he says.
He has, however, received plenty of other donations,
including Mel Gibson's sword from Braveheart,
the wedding dress Julia Roberts wore in Runaway
Bride and a Michael Jackson concert costume.
Neeson,
who has just finished a cameo role as Leonardo
Di Caprio's father in Gangs of New York,
is about to leave for the Russian location of the
submarine drama K-19: The Widowmaker in which
he stars with Harrison Ford.
