Now
The Name's Bond, Sir Bond...
James Bond may be the quintessential Englishman
even though the actor who plays him is Irish, now
just after receiving a doctorate from an Irish college
Pierce Brosnan is to get an OBE from
Her Majesty the Queen.
Brosnan
in Dublin recently
It
seems like the honours keep rolling in for Navan man
Pierce Brosnan; only weeks after he received an honourary
doctorate from the Dublin Institute of Technology
he is now being offered an honorary OBE by Her Majesty
The Queen... Very Posh!
Pierce
is receiving his OBE in recognition of his outstanding
contribution to drama and the British Film Industry.
Commenting
on the award, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw
said:
"From
his first steps as an actor at the Drama Centre of
London, through numerous starring roles on stage and
screen, Pierce Brosnan has captivated audiences at
home in Ireland, here in the UK and across the world."
He
went on, "In his portrayal of 007 in the
last four Bond films, he has added style and glamour
to the image of Britain overseas. But he has also
worked very hard behind the scenes in supporting an
array of charitable causes. This award celebrates
a truly remarkable achievement".
According
to reports the award will be presented by HM Ambassador
in Dublin on 19 July, but where exactly this will
take place we have yet to suss out...
